How to Evaluate LED Image Quality with Data | Colorlight LEDAnalyzer

The Problem with Subjective Judgment

Over the past few episodes, we've covered how calibration works — from the factory floor all the way to the job site. But once the screen is calibrated, a new question emerges: How do you actually verify the results?

Traditionally, this is done by the human eye. But relying on visual judgment is subjective, vague, and highly problematic. When looking at the exact same screen, one person might say "It looks great," while another says "It feels a bit dark." In the acceptance phase of a project, this subjective debate leaves room for endless disputes.

Image quality shouldn't be a matter of feeling—it should be backed by data.

Introducing Colorlight LEDAnalyzer

Colorlight's answer to this challenge is the LEDAnalyzer — a professional image quality evaluation system.

Instead of relying on human vision, it integrates professional hardware (such as color analyzers and refresh rate testers) with standardized algorithms. This allows it to perform fully automated, quantitative testing of the screen, giving you an objective, measurable standard for display quality.

The 5 Core Dimensions of Evaluation

LEDAnalyzer evaluates displays across five fundamental dimensions. Every metric is quantified, so the data ultimately defines whether the image quality is truly good.

1. Grayscale Evaluation

The system automatically measures actual starting brightness, peak brightness, contrast ratio, and gamma response. It also evaluates the color temperature data for every single grayscale level from 1 to 255.

Does low-gray content show unwanted color shifts? Is the transition smooth? These characteristics are no longer judged by eye—they are measured.

2. Color Evaluation

For color, LEDAnalyzer covers mainstream color gamut standards like DCI-P3 and Rec.709. It measures two critical metrics:

  • Gamut Coverage: The percentage of a defined color space that the display can reproduce.
  • Color Accuracy: It measures 65 standard Pantone color patches and calculates both the average and maximum color difference (ΔE).

3. Refresh Rate Evaluation

Refresh rate testing is incredibly detailed. The system measures the actual refresh rate at every grayscale level from 1 to 255.

You can see exactly what the real refresh rate is at low, mid, and high gray levels. LEDAnalyzer can capture real refresh rates up to 7680Hz, ensuring that fast-moving scenes stay crisp with no smearing or flicker.

4. Uniformity Evaluation

Using the standardized nine-point method, the system measures brightness and chromaticity at nine different positions across the screen. This is done for red, green, blue, and white (RGBW) to precisely calculate brightness uniformity and color uniformity.

If you need to know whether the whole screen looks consistent, the data will tell you.

5. Specialized Test Patterns

Beyond standard metrics, LEDAnalyzer includes multiple built-in test patterns: grayscale ramps, low-gray details, color bars, and text displays. These special tests are designed to check the screen's real-world performance under extreme or highly complex scenarios.

Actionable Data: The Visual Report

Once all testing is complete, the system automatically generates a comprehensive visual evaluation report.

It is not a pile of raw, incomprehensible data. It's an intuitive, quantifiable test report that clearly tells you exactly where the screen performs perfectly and where it might need adjustment.

The Complete Closed Loop

With the addition of LEDAnalyzer, Colorlight completes the final piece of the puzzle.

From production line calibration (Mica) to on-site calibration (CCM6000), and finally to quantifiable image quality evaluation (LEDAnalyzer), Colorlight provides more than just individual tools.

We offer a complete, closed-loop solution that covers every stage of the screen's lifecycle—from the moment it's manufactured to the moment it's delivered and verified. This ensures that excellent picture quality is not just a marketing claim, but a guaranteed, measurable reality.
